Est ici publiée une délimitation de frontière entre deux cités phocidiennes, Phanoteus et Stiris, datant vraisemblablement du me s. av. J.-C. Résultant d'un arbitrage de juges venus d'une cité tierce, elle est sans doute l'un des plus anciens témoignages de cette pratique. Le terme par lequel les arbitres sont désignés dans cette inscription, gaodikai, est l'occasion de se demander s'il existait en Grèce des spécialistes des litiges territoriaux. Quant à la délimitation elle-même, elle énumère des points de repère dont les (...) noms ne manquent pas d'intérêt : le lieu de départ, appelé Phokion, a un statut territorial et politique qui pose problème, tout comme son éventuelle identité avec un sanctuaire fédéral phocidien connu par Pausanias, le Phoki- kon. S'il est impossible de retrouver sur le terrain la frontière décrite dans cette inscription, l'existence même de la délimitation a pour intérêt de révéler la possibilité d'un litige frontalier, en dépit du massif d'Hélikon qui paraîtrait a priori constituer une frontière naturelle entre Phanoteus et Stiris. A business corporation capable of evolving, termed a learning corporation, has a conscious quality. It is the systemic version of a rigid structure-preserving corporation that would be expected eventually to run into problems and end up as a failure. The conscious corporation analogy can be used to simulate the sequence of processes that occur during Upasana, a Vedic technique of meditation. Die Synagoge ist das dritte der fünf großen byzantinischen Lexika: Kyrill, Hesych, Synagoge, Photios, Suda. Im Kyrill-Lexikon war erstmals der Wortschatz der heidnischen, hellenistischjüdischen und frühen christlichen griechischen Literatur gesammelt. Es ist in Hesych nachträglich eingearbeitet; etwa ein Drittel des „Hesych“ stammt aus „Kyrill“. Kyrill ist in der Synagoge exzerpiert; etwa 80 Prozent ihrer Glossen lassen sich auf ihn zurückführen, und sie kann durchaus als Kyrill-Rezension angesehen werden, wie es in einer ihrer Handschriften geschieht (vgl. p. 19, 49). This article examines the origin of experiential organization, especially whether it is salient or selective. Aron Gurwitsch believes it is salient and William James that it is selective. I argue that Gurwitsch is right, and recount his argument and his critique of James, but I also pose my own critique and critical questions on the issue. -/- Gurwitsch's argument attempts to show that the organization of consciousness is not arbitrary or merely selected in some way by the subject. He claims (...) that when consciousness is organized it is found as already organized. -/- This is important for Gurwitsch's philosophical system because if he can establish that consciousness is always originally organized, then his famous claim that the theme, thematic-field, margin structure of consciousness is an invariant patterning impervious to the subject's whim, mood, or possible noetic training, is protected at the very start. A neurosurgical view of consciousness is presented. It is biased by our need to deal with coma. The concept of primary or neurosurgical consciousness is discussed, and the anatomy, physiology, pathology and clinical features described in a simple a way. It is suggested that the dynamic interaction between the reticular activating system and the cerebral cortex is the anatomic and physiologic basis for primary consciousness. It is emphasised that this in no way diminishes the role of the cortex in either (...) primary or higher-order consciousness. In essence, a presentation is made of the neurosurgical view of cortex-brainstem inter- relationships, and the importance of this interrelationship to consciousness. (shrink)

The Speculum Ecclesie, by which title it is commonly known, of St Edmund of Abingdon, archbishop of Canterbury, has come down in various versions in Latin, Anglo-Norman, and English. The present edition comprises the original Latin text, which has never before been printed, and for comparison, printed en face, the vulgate Latin text, which is a translation of one of the Anglo-Norman versions.Manuscript evidence suggests that the Speculum must almost certainly have been written before Edmund became archbishop in 1234, and (...) even before the 1220s. The chief authority for the treatise, apart from the scriptures, is High of St Victor, and the Speculum is, in fact, a skilful summa of Hugh's teaching on the life of meditation and contemplation which should be the ideal of the religious. Edmund has drawn together and systemized advice and instruction scattered in many places in Hugh's ascetical and theological writings. (shrink)
